Focus on Success You are in charge of whether or not you will be healthy. You are the one with the power to make the choices that will support your decision to lose weight, get into great shape, and reduce the stressors in life that are always there to take us off course. We are used to thinking about taking responsibility for our health as one huge decision, but in reality it is many bite size choices that make us responsible for success. There is one simple thing you need to be successful in getting fit, losing weight, and keeping it off, and I’m willing to share it with you. After twenty-five years working hard to improve my own health and fitness, I've concluded that success comes down to one word: focus. That’s right, focus. You can't do everything at once. Sure, you can pull it off for a week or two, but soon you start feeling frustrated, deprived and going in a million different directions all at the same time. The old familiar habits, nothing more than unconscious choices, that kept you from getting healthy in the first place take over, and next thing you know, you’re on the couch with the remote control. I know that making major lifestyle changes can seem overwhelming and even scary. Where do you begin? All of a sudden, you're supposed to do more cardio, lift weights, eat less fat and more fiber, less sugar and more calcium, cut down on soda, drink more water, eat fiber and on and on and on. That’s where focus comes in. Remember, you are in charge, and the most effective strategy for success is to focus your energy on one single healthy habit at a time. Learn why that particular habit is so important and practice making the choices that will make it your own. You will find out that now you can create healthy habits. In a fairly short period of time, that new healthy habit will automatically fit into your life without extra effort. It'll just become second nature. Nothing motivates like success. Once you conquer one goal - whether it's cutting back on saturated fat or strengthening your abs - you'll be inspired to tackle another, and another. Before you know it, your successes will generate the momentum that will carry you through a complete transformation. It keeps our skin fresh, revs up or energy and metabolism and some studies show that if you drink eight 8-ounce glasses of ice water a day, the calories you use to heat the water to body temperature can lead to a pound lost every 8 weeks. It can be your family, friends or me, but support is an essential part of getting in shape and losing weight. People who get support can lose a lot more weight and learn more healthy new habits than people who try and do it all on their own.
