The reason so many people begin each week with a new diet and resort to diets time and again is that they falsely believe that there is no other way. The truth is that when diet products don't provide lasting results, chances are good that you will line up to buy the next diet. Because when diets fail, most people don't blame the diet - they blame themselves! Remember these three myth-busters before you embark on another unsuccessful weight loss program.

#1: Speed Does Not Equal Permanent Weight Loss

Losing weight is like making love. If you do it too fast, it's over quickly and doesn't last very long. What you need is a permanent solution. One that adds to your enjoyment of life. One that adds to the romance in your life. Don't fall prey to the industries that claim you can lose 8-10 pounds a week. Not only is this unhealthy - it's just not true.

# 2: All Calories Are Created Equal

In theory, a calorie is a calorie. But does that mean there is no difference between eating 1,500 calories worth of candy bars and 1,500 calories of turkey on rye? Absolutely not.
The body responds differently to calories from different sources. A candy bar loaded with refined sugar and unhealthy fat will likely be stored in your fat cells. There is not a lot (if any) protein in the candy to nourish muscles and boost metabolism. Plus, candy causes insulin surges with every bite. By contrast, the body must expend energy to break down protein and healthy fats found in the turkey on rye. That meal will provide balance throughout the day, stabilizing blood sugar and supplying a steady source of energy without insulin spikes.

# 3: Strict Diets Don't Work

How many diets have you tried over the years? Probably too many to count. Eat a grapefruit at each meal. Eat all protein. Eat no protein. Eat all the fat you want. Avoid all fat. Diets that tell you exactly what you need to eat, with no flexibility for your personal preferences and lifestyle, are doomed to fail, because they're too restrictive for real life.

So how do we lose weight? Studies reveal that people who are successful at weight loss are the ones who make lifestyle changes. They know that if you make a temporary change, you get temporary results...another roller coaster ride.
